Design and Technology

At St Johns C of E, we value and are dedicated to the teaching of Design Technology. We see this as a fundamental part of school life. We are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum which empowers our pupils to;

  • learn how to take risks,
  • becoming resourceful,
  • innovative,
  • enterprising and capable citizens

We aim to achieve this by carefully designing our curriculum to ensure that the knowledge, concepts and skills required in the National Curriculum are covered progressively across each Key Stage. Within each unit of work, pupils have the opportunities to evaluate past and present design and technology, develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world, to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world using the language of design and technology. Where possible, we meaningfully link DT to other subject areas such as mathematics, science, and computing.

We believe that a quality Design and Technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
