Sharing Meal
At St John’s our EYFS and KS1 pupils come together each term to mark the key Christian festivals through ‘Sharing Meal’. Our first ‘Sharing Meal’ of the academic year is at Harvest followed by Easter and finally ‘Pentecost’.
During our ‘Sharing Meal’ services pupils sit together in circles and are encouraged to reflect upon the festival and how they can relate it within their own lives. Bible readings and prayers are read, hymns are sung and we always conclude by sharing food relevant to the festival. This allows us to reflect more deeply upon what each food symbolises. At Harvest each class bakes a loaf of bread to share. At Easter we share Hot Cross Buns and at Pentecost we share Birthday cake which marks the birth of the Christian church.
